How long do college interviews typically last?
  • US & UK: Usually between 30 minutes and 1 hour, though some may extend beyond that depending on interviewer interaction.

Canada: You’ll record a brief video‑profile, around 10 minutes in length.

  • Interviews often occur after you submit the first part of your application, typically between December and January.
    • US: Interviews are usually handled by alumni from the university.
    • UK: Typically faculty members from the department to which you’re applying.
    Canada: There’s no interviewer, just the video response you submit.
      • US & Canada: You’ll face personal-style questions about your background, interests, motivations, extracurriculars, and challenges you’ve overcome.
      UK: Interviews are academically focused – testing your subject knowledge and may even include group interviews.
        • Canada: Completely online via a video profile recorded at home.
        • US: Can be online with an alum or in-person, often in casual settings like coffee shops or cafes.
        UK: May be online or, in some cases, on-campus—which can require international travel.
