Basic Life Support & the Medicine Interview

A one-day workshop for aspiring medical students that turns certified, hands-on emergency-skills training into something far more useful for an application. Practise real CPR and choking response — then use that same clinical experience to build a written reflection portfolio and rehearse the medical-school interview, all around one coherent theme.

The Day, Block by Block

Every block is engineered to do double duty: a genuine clinical skill, and raw material a student can use in a personal statement and at interview. Look for the outcome noted in each block.

15 Minutes 2:00 PM

Registration & Introduction

Welcome, and a clear map of what the day produces — a certificate, a completed reflection portfolio, and rehearsed interview skills. Outcome: students know exactly what they are building.

Emergency Response — CPR & Choking
Hands On

The certified core. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation — compressions, rescue breaths, technique for adults, pregnant women and infants — then choking and airway-obstruction first aid. Live demonstration and supervised hands-on practice.

Outcome: a real clinical skill and a genuine experience worth reflecting on.

Reflection Lab I — Experience into Portfolio

A guided writing session using a recognised reflective model — what happened, what it meant, what it changes. Students leave the room with a finished, written reflective entry.

Outcome: the first piece of a reflection portfolio.

The Medical Interview — MMI Station Practice

Rotating, mini Multiple Mini Interview stations built around the day’s clinical theme: data & science, observation & description, ethical reasoning, and communication. Each station is run with individual feedback.

Outcome: real, themed practice in the four station types UK medical schools use.

Reflection Lab II — Statement Workshop

Consolidate the day into two to three polished reflective entries, plus one personal-statement-ready paragraph drawing the experience and the interview practice together.
Outcome: a portfolio and statement material a student can use directly.

The Medical Pathway Session

Medical-admissions specialists on how to deploy the day’s work — the UCAT, the UCAS timeline, choosing schools, and using a reflection portfolio well. Guidance for students and parents.
Outcome: a clear next step.

Certificate Distribution & Close

Certificate of completion, final questions, feedback and wrap-up.

What Every Student Leaves With

A certificate of completion in CPR and choking response — a genuine, hands-on clinical skill, practised under supervision rather than watched.

01

BLS Certificate

Two to three structured reflective entries written on the day, plus a personal-statement paragraph — the reflected-on experience medical schools want to see and ask about.

02

Reflection Portfolio

Live practice across the four MMI station types, with individual feedback — so the interview becomes a familiar, rehearsed skill rather than an unknown.
